In an interview with Cadena Ser, Barcelona general manager Pep Segura has revealed the agents of a few young players are demanding huge fees to keep their clients at La Masia.

He claims these representatives demand amounts up to €1.5m from the club or threaten to take the academy players elsewhere.

“The big agents don’t do that. It’s typical of agents who are just getting started and are looking at their first big deal. We’ve also had it happen with the big agencies,” Segura explained.

Thursday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo has a story on the matter and they take a look at a few of the players who left the La Liga winners to collect better wages at another club, which includes Manchester City.

There is a mention about two players – Adrián Bernabe and Eric Garcia – who swapped the Spanish champions’ famous academy for the English side.

Mundo Deportivo say their sources have told them Garcia earns €500,000 per season in wages with the Premier League winners, while Bernabe gets €750,000 from them.

Over the past few years, Barcelona have seen even more of their academy players leave the club and after Segura’s latest revelation, anger at agents appears somewhat justified.
