Since joining Tottenham Hotspur on loan for the season, Gareth Bale has managed 393 minutes in the Europa League, and just 116 minutes in the Premier League.
He wasn’t involved in the squad at all at the weekend, as Jose Mourinho’s side drew with Crystal Palace. The Spurs manager then explained that Bale has been suffering from illness, although he stated it wasn’t related to Covid-19.
Spanish newspaper AS now report that Bale has his mind set on a ‘happy ending’ at Real Madrid, which would mean he wouldn’t continue at Tottenham beyond the end of this season.
AS explain ‘sources close to’ the player say he’s watching developments at Madrid closely. Should Zinedine Zidane be replaced at some point during the current campaign, or at the end of it, then Bale would be free to ‘have a good last season’ at Los Blancos.
Even if the Frenchman stays, it can’t be ruled out the Wales international would return anyway.
As far as AS are concerned, Bale’s time at Tottenham so far has been something of a disappointment and things will have to change a lot to convince Spurs to make a move to have the player next season.
None of this is seen positively in Spain, given Real Madrid don’t want to have the burden of the player’s full wages for the final year of his contract.
