Everton are engaged in talks for the signing of Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes, Sport Witness understands.
Following stories from the Portuguese media claiming the Toffees are close on signing the player on a €18m deal, our sources confirm that negotiations have been held for the move.
However, the agreement isn’t as close as previously reported. It’s believed there’s a long way until a deal can be done, especially with so much attention on the Euros.
The good news is that both Sporting and Nunes are excited with the possibility of the move, which is being conducted with the help of Jorge Mendes’ agency Gestifute.
Matheus Nunes has just had his first full season for Sporting’s first team. He made 39 appearances for the Lions, and was helpful in the club’s first league title in nearly two decades.
His contract with the Lisbon side runs until 2025 and he’s protected by a release clause of €60m. That’s why they have a good margin of negotiation and will hold for the best bid they can get this summer.
