Cádiz’s wish to hire manager Diego Martínez as a replacement for Alvaro Cervera is ‘almost impossible’ thanks to his links to Leeds United.
That’s according to Diario de Cádiz, who believe the manager is looking very likely to end up at Elland Road at some point.
The newspaper explains that Cádiz are considering a change in manager as they are showing ‘no signs of life’ on the pitch and the alarm bells are sounding.
Those in charge of the club are analysing the situation and considering whether to make a change in manager.
It won’t be easy to find a ‘guaranteed coach’ mid-way through the season, but there is one clear favourite; Martínez.
He has a good track record after his spell with Granada, but there it is considered ‘wishful thinking’ for the club to get him, and that’s because of the links to Leeds.
The Spaniard has been named as a potential replacement for Marcelo Bielsa for months, with reports in November stating that Martínez had rejected other offers in case one came from Leeds.
It was also stated that he had been ‘endorsed’ by Leeds chief Victor Orta, who had already made the ‘first approach’ to him.
Diario de Cádiz add to that, explaining that Martínez went to live in England last summer so he could immerse himself in English football.
That is something that’s already known, but they add that he is ‘not moving from England’ as ‘everything points’ to him taking charge of a club next season. They then add, ‘it sounds like Leeds United’.
Their belief is so strong that they report Cádiz are looking elsewhere for their next manager should they decide to get rid of Cervera.
As far as they’re concerned, Martínez already has one foot through the door at Elland Road, with this claim continuing to build.
