Victor Lindelof to Manchester United isn’t a done deal yet. It can’t be, the window isn’t open for a start.
That hasn’t held the Portuguese press back from pushing big reports on Tuesday insinuating it’s as good as done. Not all the Portuguese media are in unison, but the majority line is that Lindelof will be playing for Jose Mourinho soon.
This has happened before with Benfica and Manchester United. Fans of the Premier league club will certainly remember the endless Nico Gaitan claims, and will also probably recall the multiple links to Ezequiel Garay and Renato Sanches.
This time it doesn’t feel much different, it could happen or it may be another almost done Benfica to Man United transfer which never actually happens.
However, some in Portugal sound pretty convinced. One of those is Antonio Veloso, who played more than 400 times for Benfica, and who has also worked as a coach at the Lisbon club.
Quoted by A Bola, Veloso made it sound like Lindelof is as good as gone: “For me it’s no surprise that Lindelof is transferred. I just didn’t know if it would be now or at the end of the season, as there was a strong interest from Manchester United and other clubs.
“It’s an important player at Benfica, but the team has other defenders of great quality, like Jardel or Lisandro, and won’t lose. But we’re sorry to see him leave, naturally.”
That sounds pretty conclusive, but perhaps Veloso has had a day reading all the Portuguese reports which insist Lindelof is set to join Manchester United.
