Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui was recently interviewed by Italian newspaper La Repubblica (via FC Inter 1908).
Besides speaking of his season in charge of Wolves, he was also quizzed about the possibility of working in the Serie A.
Lopetegui was asked if Monchi, who used to be a director at Roma, tried to take him to the club some years ago.
The manager started by denying those rumours, but ended up claiming that going to Italy is not something ruled out of his plans.
“No, Roma has never been a possibility and when Monchi was there I was at Real Madrid. I’ve had offers to coach in Italy in the last year though. Serie A is a tremendously interesting championship and clearly growing, I don’t rule out going there. Even sooner than you think,” Julen Lopetegui told La Repubblica.
It was between July and October 2018 that Lopetegui stayed in charge of Real Madrid. He only had the job for 14 matches before getting sacked.
The manager then had a long spell at Sevilla, between 2019 and 2022, with 170 matches in charge, having left the club in October last year.
Lopetegui was signed by Wolves in November to replace Portuguese manager Bruno Lage, who had a few months on the job.
Since arriving at Molineux, the Spaniard had a record of 10 wins, five draws and 12 losses in 27 matches. His contract with the club runs until 2025.
