Claudio Ranieri knows AS Roma very well from his time as coach at the Giallorossi, and has always been an emotional manager who speaks from his heart.
The ex-Leicester City boss has now spoken about the The Friedkin Group, Roma’s current owners, and his words give Everton fans an idea of what they may expect.
As protests against the Friedkin ownership continue at Roma, Ranieri was asked about the Americans in an interview with Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai Radio 1 and he called out their rather cold approach of running the club and issued criticism for how they sacked Daniele de Rossi.
He said, as relayed by TMW: “Roma seems like a cold soul, without personality. I didn’t understand how they behaved with De Rossi: if you confirm him and give him a three-year contract, you’re telling the whole world that we’re building a new team.
“At that point you give your young coach time to do his job. You can’t send him away after four match days.”
He further said: “For what? Then it means you made a mistake in planning beforehand. Roma lacks a reference figure.”
Ranieri also mentioned that while Friedkins continue to grow the club in valuation terms, money isn’t everything and something is still missing in their running of Roma.
“You can’t blame the Friedkins completely, because they put so much money into it. But they’re showing that money alone isn’t enough. Something is still missing in a club where a reference point is very important.
“Rome is a very particular place: the fans need to be pampered, helped, encouraged. So instead it seems like there’s coldness.”
Ranieri’s statements are the latest which are critical towards the The Friedkin Group and how they approach aspects of running Roma.
This has all heightened since the Everton takeover was announced, with a feeling in Italy that the Toffees will take the majority of attention and potential investment.
