Standard Liege defender Zinho Vanheusden has admitted they do have to deal with being paid late sometimes after Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden came out to reveal the issues at the Belgian side.

The defender has been speaking Het Nieuwsblad about the situation as the Newcastle midfielder threatens to take his former employers to court.

Hayden recently returned to Newcastle from a loan spell with the Belgian club, who he joined in the summer when it was made clear he was not a part of Eddie Howe’s plans for this season.

That has now changed as Howe and his team deal with a series of injury issues and their inability to enter the market to solve them due to Profit and Sustainability rules.

That’s not the only reason Hayden has returned to St James Park, though, with the midfielder insisting he brought the loan to an end because his November wages were paid late, and he was yet to receive any money for December.

Het Nieuwsblad confirm that inquiries at Standard have confirmed the November wages were paid two weeks later than normal, but players were informed of this in advance.

December’s wages, meanwhile, have followed the standard protocol for players leaving the club, with deductions still being made thanks to the player’s return to Newcastle.

They claim that Hayden was made aware of this, and they are confident he received what he is owed this week, meaning a lawsuit will not need to happen.

It is a situation that does need sorting, though, something captain Zinho Vanheusden is comfortable admitting when asked about the Newcastle man.

“That is indeed something we have to deal with (players not being always paid on time),” he said.

“But given the sporting situation of the club, winning matches is the only thing we want to focus on now. The board will have to solve the rest.”
