Donny van de Beek has been on the bench for Manchester United’s first three Premier League matches this season, and hasn’t managed to get a minute of football.

Despite Scott McTominay recovering from a groin injury, Van de Beek hasn’t been brought into the team, largely because he’s more of an attacking player than what Manchester United need right now.

As the Dutch media have admitted repeatedly, it’s Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba that Van de Beek is competing with, and he’s going to find it hard to displace either. This is where a last minute move to Everton could have helped.

Algemeen Dagblad report, via Soccer News, that Rafael Benitez’s side made a late attempt to take the Dutchman on a loan basis. Van de Beek wasn’t against the idea, and according to the report a deal was progressing.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to have blocked the move to Everton, meaning Van de Beek will remain with Manchester United until at least the winter window.

Whether Everton will return then remains to be seen.
