Fotboll Direkt have reported on Watford’s pursuit for IFK Goteborg goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg, after recent claims the Premier League side are to hold talks with the player’s agent.

The Swedish football outlet have in recent weeks been on the ball with the latest developments over Watford’s pursuit of Dahlberg, which in the past few days has been picked up in the English media by Sky Sports.

Fotboll Direkt have reported on the possible transfer for the 18 year old, with suggestions the youngster could go for a record fee for a Swedish goalkeeper. However, despite Dahlberg being valued in the region of 33m Krona (£2.9m) they say this would be ‘small money’ to a club with the financial power of Watford.

Andre Gray’s move to Watford from Burnley in the last window has been highlighted to demonstrate Watford’s financial might in the transfer market, and with Gino Pozzo in charge of the club the Italian is familiar with closing much bigger transfers.

If Dahlberg is transferred to the Premier League side for the suggested 33m Krona then he would become just the 24th most expensive player in the club’s history, and it seems Watford are in a strong position to land the youngster in the new year.

Talks are now expected with Dahlberg’s agent, but Watford may need to move quickly with the likes of Napoli showing a keen interest in the player.
