This week, reports from the Dutch media claimed that besides being interested in Arne Slot, Tottenham Hotspur would like to sign Orkun Kökçü from Feyenoord as well.
It was said Spurs would try to make a double deal with the Eredivisie side. That plan had already collapsed when the manager agreed to his contract extension, and now it seems the pursuit of the player could get blocked too.
Slot today spoke to the Dutch media (via 1908), and when quizzed about the future of Kökçü, he made it clear he doesn’t want the player going anywhere.
“But yes, we will also be active at a higher level as Feyenoord. At least in Europe. So a great opportunity for him as well. Yes, I will do everything I can to try to keep him, that seems clear to me.”
We’ve already seen reports claiming Tottenham have already held talks with Kökçü’s entourage, with stories claiming Spurs are strong contenders to get the signing done.
The request for his transfer had been said to be of €40m, something the London side could definitely afford, as long as they get the approval from their next manager and director of football.
However, with Slot looking focused on keeping the player at Feyenoord, let’s see whether that price will have a change.
