If you were to currently take a look at the Ligue 1 table, you’d be perhaps a bit shocked, not because Paris Saint-Germain are top of the pile, but because RC Lens, who were promoted just a season or so ago, are currently second.

They do have a game in hand on OGC Nice and Marseille, but they have surprised everyone with their performances, both individually and collectively, and Jonathan Clauss, their right-back, has been a standout.

The 29-year-old is now being pushed towards the France national team, which he’d undoubtedly love to be a part of as it would help his dream of one day playing for Chelsea.

Clauss was interviewed by RMC Sport recently and as part of it, he ended up answering fan questions, including which club was his favourite.

He answered: “Since I was kid, it’s been Chelsea, and it remains Chelsea. Would I like to discover a new country? Let’s say England, but I’m not really desperate to discover new countries. I’ll go where I’m taken or I’ll stay where I’m at, but yes, England, it makes you dream”.

With César Azpilicueta and Reece James currently at right-back, Thomas Tuchel isn’t desperate for someone in the role, but that could change depending on what the Spaniard decides to do.

His contract at Stamford Bridge runs out in 2022 and if he decides to leave for pastures new 10 years after joining, that would leave the door open for Clauss, if he is someone the Blues are looking at.
