Oriol Romeu has been labelled ‘one of the best midfielders’ in La Liga as he continues to shine for Girona following his move from Southampton in the summer.

The Spanish midfielder departed St Mary’s in a surprise move in the summer, bringing an end to a seven year stay on the south coast following his move from Chelsea in 2015.

He had been a stalwart for the Saints during that time, making 217 appearances in the Premier League and 256 in all competitions.

After his exit, the player later explained that he sought it out as he felt it was time to return to Spain with his family.

He’s been impressing for Girona ever since, with one report explaining how he has quickly established himself as a key player and likening him to a fabled ‘wild boar on the loose’.

Mundo Deportivo continue that today, stating that his move from Southampton has been a ‘total success’ for Girona duo Quique Cárcel and Pere Guardiola.

They can now ‘boast’ of having signed ‘one of the best midfielders in the league’ in the first part of this season.

They’re more than happy with the deal they got from Southampton, with Romeu impressing and looking to build on an excellent start to life at his new club once the World Cup break comes to an end.
