Following the signature of M’Baye Niang from AC Milan on loan with a view to buy, Watford are trying to further reinforce their squad with another player from Serie A.

Allowing far too many shots to find the back of their net this season, the Hornets are allegedly after a new centre-back, and Il Tempo reckon the man Walter Mazzarri has highlighted for the role is Inter Milan’s Andrea Ranocchia.

A couple of days, stories emerged that Swansea were in talks to sign the 28-year-old, but that was quickly dismissed by the local press, with the player allegedly preferring to remain with his his current side.

Il Tempo report Watford are trying to pull off another ‘coup’ by signing the former Inter Milan captain, but the player’s big contract is currently standing in the way.

Currently earning £40k/week until June 2019, it seems the Hornets are reluctant to match his wages, with the Italian newspaper explaining that if nothing can get worked out this month, discussions could be postponed until the summer.

Either way, it seems Walter Mazzarri is very keen on Andrea Ranocchia, and this one could go down to the wire.
