After a long-winded saga in the summer, Billy Gilmour left Brighton & Hove Albion to join Napoli.
While he is yet to make his full debut for Antonio Conte’s side, it appears he’s already won over many at the club – a bit like his Scotland teammate Scott McTominay.
La Repubblica, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24, have reported that Gilmour is expected to start for Napoli in their Coppa Italia clash against Palermo on Thursday. It’s stated he’s already ‘earned the respect’ of his teammates in training.
Conte has also been left impressed by the midfielder and the expectation is that he should have no problems making his first start.
The belief at Napoli is that Gilmour’s playing style is ‘very suited’ to what the Partenopei demand from their midfield, as the report praises his playmaking abilities from deep.
It also compares him to the influential Stanislav Lobotka, but suggests that Gilmour’s approach is more vertical than his teammate.
The arrival from Brighton is also presented as being very excited about starting against Palermo, having made two brief appearances in Serie A so far.
