Philip Billing joined Napoli from Bournemouth in the winter transfer window.

The move came as a surprise to many. Not just because of how quickly the move went through, but also Billing playing only 176 minutes in the Premier League for the Cherries.

Corriere del Mezzogiorno have reported today that Billing has not settled into life in Italy yet, or into the swing of his new club, and as a result he ‘cannot be risked’ by the Partenopei as a starter.

The newspaper believe the 28-year-old is ‘not ready’ to play in Serie A. Since Napoli find themselves in a critical stage of a title race, they do not want to take the risk of using someone not deemed to be ready enough.

So far, the ex-Bournemouth man is yet to play even once in the Italian top-flight for the Naples club and that highlights his struggles.

To make it clear the local newspaper state Billing is ‘evidently not yet ready for Italian football and cannot be risked in this final rush’.

Perhaps he’ll have to look towards excelling next season after a pre-season with Napoli.
