Chelsea fullback Davide Zappacosta continues to be a constant topic in the Italian rumour mill.

This week, some outlets have been highlighting interest from Roma in the player, who couldn’t really manage to prove himself for the Blues yet.

Now it’s Il Messaggero who brings a big story about the Serie A side’s plans for the end of the transfer window. They say before the Giallorrosi go for Zappacosta, they must solve another issue first, as the club are waiting to see if Davide Santon is leaving them this summer.

If the departure happens, they they will try to sign Zappacosta on a loan deal from the Blues.

Zappacosta’s signing would be ‘clear’ once Santon leaves the club. The Chelsea player is seen as a first option ahead of Elseid Hysaj from Napoli.

With only 17 appearances for Chelsea last season, it doesn’t sound like Zappacosta has much of a future at the club. Signed on a €25m deal from Torino in 2017, he has a contract running until 2021.
