The Manchester United circus is well and truly in town this week and causing drama in various countries.
Over in France, the media are just about now getting to hear of claims Mauricio Pochettino would be tempted to turn his back on PSG and take up a job at Old Trafford. The reaction to that will appear in the coming hours, and it’s fair to say the Paris club will want to make sure their pride remains intact whatever happens.
Over in the Netherlands they’ve been arguing about Erik ten Hag claims for nearly 24 hours. All kinds of football personalities and pundits have appeared in various forms of Dutch media and given their view, with the views often conflicting.
There was some disagreement on Sunday evening’s Ziggo Sport.
The TV show had multiple people claiming multiple things, and one, ‘analyst’ Jan van Halst, put forward the possibility of Ten Hag demanding Marc Overmars, Ajax’s sporting director, goes with him.
SoccerNews quote him as saying: “Could he make it a condition that he only wants to go if Overmars goes with them, because they don’t have a technical director there?”
Youri Mulder, another pundit, said such a demand would be “a sign of weakness”.
Van Halst wasn’t having any of that, and responded: “Weak? I think it’s strong to set a condition. He likes to work with Overmars. And maybe Edwin van der Sar can come along too. Otherwise he is at the mercy of the gods, like Solskjaer. Then you are at the mercy of the Glazer family.”
The arguments continued, with others getting involved, and Manchester United are providing drama opportunities for all of Europe.
