Kicker are reporting that Serhou Guirassy’s exit clause expired on Thursday evening.
Initially it was believed the clause ran until around August 20th, and then reports from Germany earlier this week said it was Friday, so today, but it’s now being claimed that it was last night and the clause is now gone.
Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and West Ham had all been credited with interest in the VfB Stuttgart player.
There had been worry at the Bundesliga side that the clause would be used. Standing at €15m, it was certainly within the reach of Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and West Ham.
Now, Stuttgart have more power over the price, and are free to reject any offers even if they hit that €15m mark. The worry has now dropped, and Kicker report there’s been a collective ‘sigh of relief’ around the German club.
A summer move for Guirassy hasn’t been completely ruled out, but now it would have to be on Stuttgart’s terms.
The 27-year-old striker scored 14 goals last season.
