Despite having an impressive start for Arsenal, Gabriel Jesus was left out of Brazil’s latest call-up.
The striker, who already has three goals and three assists for the Gunners in the Premier League, was not in Tite’s list for the final friendlies before the World Cup.
Gabriel Jesus has indeed lived ups and downs at the national team, and before the summer, his presence in the tournament was not guaranteed.
However, with his first months at Arsenal, his absence was received with surprise by the Brazilian media.
Luis Fabiano, who was the national team’s number 9 during the 2010 World Cup, was last night interviewed by SBT, and when asked about who should be the centre-forward in Tite’s team, he named the Gunners’ star.
“I’d put Gabriel Jesus, for the moment. He’s playing very well at Arsenal, showing confidence, strength and scoring goals,” said Luis Fabiano (via Gazeta Esportiva).
“Now, it is difficult to put Pedro in, despite having a great season. He had to be tested more first. He plays a lot of ball, but he started playing now too.”
With 24 goals scored this season, Pedro is undoubtedly a player who deserves a chance to prove himself at the national team.
However, in case Gabriel Jesus continues doing that well for Arsenal, it’s hard to see him staying out of the World Cup, even if that means Tite taking them both and leaving someone like Roberto Firmino out.
