Liverpool’s reported interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Odilon Kossounou has led to some confusion in Germany, with an insistence he’s very much not worth it.
Fussball Transfers cover the claim today and how reports of Liverpool reportedly being interested ‘comes as a bit of a surprise’.
Reports in England this week had named Liverpool as one of several suitors for the defender, even going as far as to say they could be set to make a bid for him.
That’s surprising to those who’ve watched him this season, though, with the player very much the ‘small loser’ amid Leverkusen’s success this season.
That was recently the case in the Europa League win over West Ham, when he was dragged off after half an hour amid a miserable performance.
It is therefore surprising that a club such as Liverpool would be ready to make a move for him and certainly not for the €60m asking price that has been previously quoted in Germany.
FT say that while Leverkusen probably would be open to a sale given he’s entering the final two years of his current deal, the current lack of form does not suggest any big offers will be arriving any time soon.
This is very much a big jug of cold water being poured all over the suggestions, with Kossonou out of form and not worth anywhere near €60m.
