Paul Pogba wanted to join Tottenham rather than returning to Juventus last summer, but Antonio Conte blocked the transfer.
That’s according to journalist Massimo Brambati, who says Spurs were the Frenchman’s “first choice” when he was considering his next destination.
Pogba became a free agent last summer when his Manchester United contract came to an end after something of a miserable, six-year second spell at Old Trafford.
He eventually joined former club Juventus on a free transfer after months of speculation about where he would end up next, with little mention of Tottenham at the time.
That return has proven to be a disaster so far, with the Frenchman managing just two appearances in Serie A so far after returning to the club injured.
He was set to return recently but has instead found himself back on the treatment table after injuring himself practicing free kicks in training.
That came after he was left out of the squad last week due to disciplinary issues, with both issues causing to a growing sense of frustration at Juventus, where most would be happy to see him go once again.
It seems things could have been very different, though, with Brambati revealing the midfielder could have stayed in the Premier League with Tottenham last year.
“I wonder: is there anyone co-responsible in this situation?” Tuttomercatoweb report him saying.
“Whoever took him is responsible. I know that his first choice was Antonio Conte’s Tottenham but the coach said no to Paratici to this option.”
