Shkodran Mustafi moving to Schalke on deadline day would have provided the Bundesliga club with the defender they need before letting Ozan Kabak leave.

The latter has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool on deadline day, with the Reds in the process of agreeing a loan deal with Schalke, which could then be turned into a permanent transfer in the summer window.

Kabak was pictured with Schalke’s medical team earlier on Monday, with it being assumed he was having a medical ahead of a move to Liverpool.

Schalke getting a replacement has been key, and Arsenal’s Mustafi has looked to be that man, with multiple reports that he’s agreed personal terms and was working with the Gunners to terminate his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.

A problem is now presented by Bild, who say Mustafi’s move is ‘stalling’. They’ve spoken to the defender’s entourage, and whilst things between the Arsenal man and Schalke are thought to be fine, there’s ‘other issues’ and among them is the Gunners’ stance.

This will obviously be a concern for Liverpool.
