When Carlos Carvalhal took over at Sheffield Wednesday, the Portuguese press quickly reported scouting efforts by the club in Portugal.

There’d regularly be Sheffield Wednesday officials at Liga NOS matches, even at the very biggest clubs, and they were the Championship club most often seen.

Despite Wolves having strong Portuguese connections, they don’t really scout in the country, perhaps preferring to let Jorge Mendes sort out that side of things.

With Carvalhal’s exit to Swansea City the Welsh club have already started scouting Portuguese matches more than they have previously, but Sheffield Wednesday haven’t stopped.

There’s been officials from the Championship club at matches over the past couple of weeks, and on Friday night they watched Sporting draw 1-1 with Vitoria Setubal, report Record.

We’re not going to try and guess who Sheffield Wednesday are watching, but it’s clear they haven’t completely ditched their Portuguese transfer plans.

It’s possible the club will have scouts on contract in Portugal, and they’ll have to decide what to do with them.
