Sheffield Wednesday striker Lucas João was interviewed on Tuesday by Portuguese newspaper Record, who highlights the player’s good form in the Championship.
With João scoring eight goals for the Owls this season so far, the outlet points out that the player is close to matching his career record, when he scored 12 for Mirandela.
João has spoken about that, and the two goals he scored against Rotherham at the weekend: “I’m happy to have managed to do my job well, that is, to score goals. But I would have preferred my contribution to have secured all three points. It was unfortunately not possible”
“I’m playing more regularly, which helps a lot. I have a good goal average that makes me happy. It’s a sign that I’m doing my job well and that things are going well, so far.”
“We’ve done one of the best ever Championship starts at the club, but in the past few weeks it hasn’t gone so well. I believe we have the capacity to turn the situation around. We must continue to work and believe.”
And when talking about the dreams he still has on his career, João claims he would like to play for either Benfica, Porto or Sporting, but also wants to feature in the Premier League.
“Returning home is an ever-present wish. But the dream of the Premier League is so close here [laughs]… I feed the hope of one day playing in the English top tier and coming to represent one of those considered the greats of Portugal.”
