Sheffield Wednesday sent a scout to last night’s game between Benfica and SC Braga, according to claims in the Portuguese media. The Championship club made frequent trips to Portugal last season, and it seems they will continue to do so in this campaign.
Those included Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bayer Leverkusen, Brugge, Celtic, Everton, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Montpellier, Strasbourg, Lens, Real Betis, Spartak Moscow and Trabzonspor.
There haven’t been reports on who Sheffield Wednesday were watching, but since Carlos Carvalhal came in as the manager of the club the trips to Portugal have been regular. Sheffield Wednesday have made several trips to Portugal last season, and a lot of their focus has been on Estoril.
Sheffield Wednesday scouting Estoril made more sense in terms of targeting new players, even though they were also seen at games involving the top clubs Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto and SC Braga.
