Sheffield Wednesday defender Frederico Venâncio gets a big story in Portuguese newspaper A Bola today, as the Owls would be considering signing him on a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
Currently on loan from Portuguese side Vitória de Setúbal, the defender would be convincing the Championship side’s board that he’s worth a bigger investment when his temporary spell comes to an end.
The article gets a bit confusing because it starts normally written by A Bola, and then mixes a bit with claims from the English press, making the reader wonder where the original info has come from.
But there’s still some new information shared by A Bola which is about the price Sheffield Wednesday would have to pay for the player. They’ve taken quotes from August last year when the ex-president of Vitória de Setúbal revealed the amount set in the contract.
Back last summer, when Venâncio renewed his contract with Setúbal before signing his SWFC loan, Fernando Oliveira said: “The player’s contract was ending and we were able to sign him for three years, guarding an option clause of three million euros.”So in case the ex-president was right, this is the maximum amount Sheffield Wednesday will have to spend to sign Venâncio on a permanent deal. Even though the defender took a while do adapt to English football, his sequence in the team shows he’s appreciated at the club.
