Sheffield United have concrete interest in NEC Nijmegen’s Sontje Hansen.

That’s according to Soccer News, who state Sheffield United are joined by RC Lens in the race for the winger. He made 18 appearances this season, managing five goals and an assist in the process.

Chris Wilder’s side have already converted their interest into a proposal and have sent a ‘multi-million offer’ to the Dutch club.

The outlet states the Blades have offered €3.5m for the 22-year-old, who is ‘important’ for NEC Nijmegen.

Journalist Mounir Boualin covered this report and claims the Ligue 1 side have to offload some players before making an approach for the Dutchman. Sheffield United have already done that by offloading Ismaila Coulibaly earlier this month.

This gives the Championship side a clear advantage over Lens in the race to secure the attacker’s services.

It’s not clear whether Hansen would be open to joining Sheffield United in this window. They are third in the Championship, level on points with second placed Burnley and a point behind leaders Leeds United.

Wilder and his side will have to convince Hansen to acquire his signature in January.
