Sheffield United official Selahattin Baki has given the reasons why they rejected Fenerbahce’s offer for Vinicius Souza during the summer.
The Brazilian was close to a move to the Istanbul club during the final stages of the English transfer window after they made an offer for the 25-year-old.
Hurriyet have reported on comments Baki has given to TRT Spor in which he said the offer which came in for Souza was less than what Sheffield United paid the previous summer.
He went on to say Fenerbahce’s main priority was to bring in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and once they got a deal over the line for the Morocco international, they dropped their interest in Souza.
“This offer was below the investment made by Sheffield United for the player one year ago. At the same time, Fenerbahce was in the final stages of the transfer of Sofyan Amrabat. The main name Mourinho wanted was Amrabat. The transfer of the player did not take place as the transfer of Amrabat was finalised and the offer for Souza fell short of expectations,” said the Blades official.
Yesterday we covered comments made by Baki after as he first spoke about Fenerbahce’s last-ditch attempt to sign the Sheffield United man. He said an offer came in on deadline day, but the Championship side instantly rejected it.
Jose Mourinho was keen to bring in a midfield partner for Fred, but instead the Super Lig side signed Amrabat from Fiorentina.
