Sheffield United official Selahattin Baki has revealed to the Turkish media that Fenerbahce made a last-ditch attempt to sign Blades midfielder Vinicius Souza.
The Brazilian was linked with a move to the Istanabul club in the final stages of the English window as Jose Mourinho looked to bring in a defensive midfielder to partner Fred.
Asistanaliz have reported on comments Baki has made to TRT Sports in which he said Fenerbahce tabled an offer for the Sheffield United playe. He went on to say this bid was rejected by the Championship club but hasn’t revealed how much Fener were prepared to pay for the 25-year-old.
“Fenerbahce made an official offer for Vinicius Souza on the transfer deadline day (in the UK), but we did not accept it,” said the Blades official.
Prominent Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has also backed up these claims that Fenerbahce were looking to sign Souza and had made an offer.
He reported a few days before the transfer window closed in England that the Super Lig side were looking to use the money from the sale of Ferdi Kadıoğlu to Brighton to sign Souza.
With four days left of the Super Lig window Fenerbahce may still have their eye on the Sheffield United man, but as yet there are no reports of a second offer.
