Sheffield United are set to fight it out with Ajax to sign Fenerbahce’s young goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, claim Takvim.
The Turkish newspaper report that the 22 year old could leave the club this summer as Fenerbahce look to sell some of their players because of their poor financial situation.
It’s reported that Sheffield United and Ajax are showing interest in signing Bayindir, who has been impressive for Fenerbahce this season, after joining the club from Ankaragucu last summer.
Takvim claim that Ajax are looking to sign him as a potential replacement for Andre Onana, who has been linked with a move away from the club. They also say Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is following the progress of the Turkish goalkeeper.
Blades’ scouts have reportedly watched Bayindir a couple of times, and they are also now analysing his performance in the other games he’s played in so far this season.
The Premier League side could look to sign a new goalkeeper if Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson remains at his parent club next season.
Bayindir’s contract with Fenerbahce will expire at the end of June 2023.
