Despite all the claims from the English media that Erik ten Hag looks set to become the next Manchester United manager, there is little confirmation that this is the case.
Their Dutch counterparts, while agreeing there is a chance he could head to Old Trafford, aren’t as certain as those on these shores, even if De Telegraaf did back up the notion that an ‘official written offer’ has been made to the Ajax boss.
There is one man in Holland who is convinced ten Hag will not be at the helm of the Eredivisie side next season, however, and that man is Algemeen Dagblad columnist Hugo Borst.
Writing about Ajax’s poor performances of late, claiming that while the players ‘have the shirt one, they don’t wear with love or pride’, with most of them having ‘their minds elsewhere’, with elsewhere being ‘usually abroad’.
That could also be the case for ten Hag himself, as Borst, relayed by FC Update, writes: ‘The coach is leaving. To England. Or Germany. We do not know. He doesn’t say anything, but he’s leaving. Such a shame. He could save Ajax.’
If he does leave, there will be many in the north of England and around the world hoping that he does choose Manchester United.
Despite rumours that RB Leipzig could also be in the mix, it was said that ten Hag does prefer the option to go to Old Trafford.
Seemingly unfazed by everything that has happened since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, the Dutchman, who could have saved Ajax, might just be the one to save Manchester United.
