Last November, reports coming out of Spain stated Newcastle United were looking at UD Almería star Umar Sadiq for the winter market.
The deal didn’t take shape since the second division Spanish club were unwilling to part ways with the 25-year-old in the middle of the season. The Magpies have not forgotten about the striker, who has managed 36 goals and 16 assists since joining LaLiga2 side in 2020.
According to Sport, his fine form and impressive statistics have not gone unnoticed in Spain and across Europe. The Tyneside club and Barcelona have already asked about the player and they are now joined by Sevilla.
The latter’s chief, Monchi, has been interested in the Nigeria international ‘for a long time’ and they are back in the picture to acquire his services.
It’s claimed the ‘main obstacle’ for Sadiq’s suitors is the ‘lack of flexibility’ shown by his club when it comes to negotiating his transfer. They had received proposals around €20m and all of them were turned down.
Sadiq’s contract runs down in 2025. As per Sport, Almería owner and president, Turki Al-Sheikh, ‘remains firm’ and asks for €60m, the player’s clause, to let his prized asset leave the club in the summer.
Newcastle have asked about Sadiq, but it is unlikely that Eddie Howe’s side or others are ready to meet Turki Al-Sheikh’s demands to carry out the attacker’s signing.
