Andre Carrillo has rejected a move to Watford, according to two Portuguese sources.

Two Portuguese newspapers are reporting the snub today, saying the player wants to stay at Benfica and fight for his place at the Lisbon side.

A Bola claims that Watford made an offer for a loan deal, and the Eagles were pretty open to it, but it was the player who turned it down. He wants to play in the Champions League, and is not afraid of the heavy competition he will have in Benfica’s squad.

They say that Marco Silva himself tried to convince Carrillo, since the two worked together at Sporting a few years ago, but the manager still couldn’t attract the 26-year-old to Watford.

Correio da Manhã points out other reasons why the Peruvian winger wants to stay: he’s completely adapted to Lisbon, and will soon be the father of twins. So changing countries is not something he has in his plans right now.

This is all a little strange, as the Carillo to Watford rumours seemed to start as Benfica trying to push the player to the Premier League club.
