L’Equipe have a feature in their Saturday edition looking at various possible transfers for Ligue 1 clubs in January. Getting the most attention is Marseille, with the club having been taken over since the last summer transfer window.
There’s an expectation that there’ll be money to spend at Marseille, and the French side have hoped some of it would be going the way of Aston Villa.
Keen on Jordan Amavi, the French newspaper say Marseille’s director of sport Andoni Zubizarreta, formerly of Barcelona, has met ‘several’ times with the Aston Villa player’s representatives.
However, the situation is difficult, largely because Aston Villa’s Amavi is happy in England and if he’s to leave his current club then a switch to the Premier League would be the preference.
Aston Villa owner, and all round raconteur, Tony Xia has claimed the club have turned down a £25m offer.
Marseille wouldn’t want to go anywhere near that figure, which leaves everything stalled unless a few things change.
As L’Equipe say: “It’s complicated.”
