Real Madrid have ‘resumed the possibility of hiring’ Chelsea’s Antonio Rüdiger in the next window, according to AS.

The defender’s current deal with the west London club runs down on June 30th. As it stands, the Blues cannot offer him a new deal following sanctions on Roman Abramovich.

Thomas Tuchel’s man was linked to Los Blancos, but they had ‘ruled out’ the possibility to sign him a few months ago. However, there seems to be a new development as the La Liga side have rekindled their interest in the Chelsea star.

It’s claimed the current situation at Stamford Bridge, the 29-year-old’s ‘desire to play for Real Madrid’ and the ‘good impression’ he left after Chelsea’s Champions League matches against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, ‘bring him closer’ to the Bernabéu.

Rüdiger demanded an annual salary of €10m, which is why the Spanish giants had initially ‘ruled out’ his signing. However, Real Madrid have ‘revived interest’ in the centre-back after his fine performance in Madrid.

The ‘problem’, however, is trying to accommodate the Germany international into their wage bill next season since Real Madrid are working on renewing Éder Militão,Vinícius Júnior and Luka Modrić’s contracts.

Marcelo’s exit at the end of the season could force Real Madrid to look for a new left-back. Rüdiger’s potential arrival could allow Ancelotti use Alaba on the left side of the defence next season. This would help Los Blancos save on a new signing and his salary.
