A few months ago, when Ajax started being heavily linked to Tottenham Hotspur forward Steven Bergwijn, it sounded quite likely that the player would end up in Amsterdam this summer.

However, the Eredivisie giants haven’t managed to agree a deal with Spurs yet, and that has been opening up new possibilities for the 24-year-old’s future.

Bergwijn had a word with the Dutch media today, and as he spoke of his summer transfer scenario, he ended up confirming he’s leaving Tottenham.

He just doesn’t know where he’s going.

The forward told local journalists he’s not short of options to move in the transfer window, and should soon confirm his departure from the London side.

“Several clubs have come forward,” said Bergwijn (via De Telegraaf).

“Now I just have to find a solution for myself that benefits both parties. I’m leaving.”

Bergwijn made it clear that a summer move is not because of Antonio Conte, even though a lack of playing time has been a big issue for him at the Premier League side.

“We’ve talked about that. But no, I don’t feel cheated. I respect his choices and I have no problem with him at all. In the games I came in, I showed what I can do, scored my goals and provided assists. At one point I really didn’t know what to do to get into the team. However, I never made any problems. But now is the time to leave, you could say that my suitcase is already packed. I cannot afford another season like this, and mentally it’s tough too.”

Covering the quotes, De Telegraaf point out Ajax had an ‘outline agreement’ with Tottenham for the signing, but should now feel threatened by other clubs.

Interestingly, without naming specific clubs, the Dutch newspaper repeatedly mentions interest from Premier League sides.
