Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone has been linked with a return to his home country with Serie A’s Genoa. Only last week the 28-year-old spoke to the Italian media about a possible exit from the Premier League club in this window after confirming interest from other clubs.
Gazzetta dello Sport have reported Genoa have made contact with Sunderland to sign Mannone after the injury to their No.1 Mattia Perin. The Italian goalkeeper has been ruled out for the rest of the season with knee ligament damage, and subsequently Genoa have turned to the Sunderland keeper.
However, with Jordan Pickford sidelined for several weeks it would take some convincing for Sunderland boss David Moyes to let Mannone leave in this window.
With the injury to Perin, Genoa have been linked with a number of goalkeepers today with one of those being Aston Villa’s Pierlugi Gollini. The youngster has lost his place in Steve Bruce’s side and is an option for Genoa.
Atalanta’s Marco Sportiello and Benevento’s Alexis Cragno are also on Genoa’s shortlist.
