Gonzalo Higuain and Arsenal has been a recurring story pretty much every summer, and this time around has sadly (if there’s no happy ending) been no different.

Napoli’s stance couldn’t be clearer, it’s the same as it’s always been: pay his release clause of €94m and he’s yours.

Gazzetta dello Sport said in their Tuesday edition that the clause expired on June 30th, and so Napoli could ask for even more. So, either way, the stance right now is a minimum of €94m.

However, talk of Arsenal offering €60m + Olivier Giroud has emerged (does this mean Giroud is worth €34m?), and that’s what the Italian press seem to be going with.

Since then, rumours of Arsenal pulling the plug (for the time being) have also appeared because of apparent media leaks, but Wednesday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport ignores all this and ties to convince people Arsenal already have a contract offer prepared for the Argentinean striker.

The Italian newspaper say that, even though he rejected a reported €50m/year contract from China, Higuain would be prepared to say ‘yes’ to the London club’s offer of €8m/year on a four-year contract, which is around £130k/week.

It’s not made clear whether the £130/week is after or before tax.

The biggest problem in all this rests with Napoli and their reluctance to sell their star player, and considering how stubborn Aurelio De Laurentiis is known to be, this could go on for a very long time.
