You’re probably well aware of this by now, but Nampalys Mendy wants out from Leicester City, and the Foxes are making an exit rather awkward.
The reason behind this is that the Premier League side want rid of the defensive midfielder for good rather than run the risk of seeing him return from an unsuccessful loan spell.
Of course, this leaves a lot of interested clubs with a big problem, unwilling to spend more than £10m on a player who only made four league appearances last season.
Bordeaux, a club Mendy was desperate to join, have since moved on and signed someone else, while Saint-Etienne are still hovering, but can only put together a loan with a view to buy, which Leicester don’t want.
According to the French website, Atalanta also made a loan offer with a view to buy, but met the same resistance from Leicester the Ligue 1 sides have had to deal with all summer.
Regarding their interest, it seems that is likely to die down now that they’re on the verge of re-signing Marten de Roon, also a defensive midfielder, from Middlesbrough.
