Towards the end of the transfer window, a lingering rumour kept popping up in the Italian press involving Napoli and Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The young attacking midfielder, who spent last season on loan at PSV in the Eredivisie, has been spotted a few times on the Premier League side’s bench, even coming on against Swansea and starting against Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

Featuring at left-back, the 21-year-old appears to be Pep Guardiola’s backup for Fabian Delph in Benjamin Mendy’s absence, but that’s not exactly where he wants to be playing.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy, Napoli have now set their sights on trying to get the Ukraine international in January, although whether that is on loan or on a permanent deal has yet to be revealed.

The website state there could be ‘possible new contact’ in ‘the coming hours’, which we all know means somewhere in between one hour and a month when it comes to transfer talk.

One to keep an eye on as Napoli’s interest was definitely real back in the summer.
