Patrice Evra’s possible departure from Juventus in January could force the Serie A giants to look for a defender in the transfer window.
The Frenchman has been linked with a return to Manchester United, but a move elsewhere is more likely.
According to Italian website Calciomercato, Juventus are keen on signing Matteo Darmian to replace Evra. However, Calciomercato believe it’s ‘complicated’ for Juventus to sign the former Torino star before next summer.
The 27-year-old has been relegated to the bench again by Jose Mourinho after the return of injured players. The Italy international was overlooked for yesterday’s FA Cup clash with Reading with Ashley Young utilised at right back.
It isn’t too clear if Darmian is in Jose Mourinho’s future plans, but it’s unlikely he would be allowed to leave in January unless someone else comes in. With Eric Bailly at the Africa Cup of Nations and Marcos Rojo limping off in the win over Reading, Mourinho will need cover in defence.
Mourinho won’t weaken his squad for the second half of the season, and his say will be final.
Darmian could still has an important role to play this season, especially with Manchester United still in four competitions. The 27 year old has a contract until 2019, and has made 12 appearances this season.
