Stefan De Vrij to Manchester United is a bit of a weird rumour.

A year or so ago, the Dutch centre-back was said to be promised to José Mourinho, with talk of a pre-agreement between the Red Devils and Lazio being reached, but nothing came of it, and he stayed in Italy.

Now, with De Vrij’s contract expiring in the summer, Il Messaggero bring everything back by saying the Serie A defender is ‘still waiting for José Mourinho’ after his ‘betrayal’ last summer.

The reason behind Manchester United’s reluctance to go through with the deal was the centre-back’s previous knee injury, as the Red Devils didn’t want to risk him getting injured again soon after a transfer.

With that question now answered, as the defender has played in all but one of their league games this season, a return could be on the cards.

Furthermore, Manchester United can now get the 25-year-old on a free in the summer, and he’s patiently waiting for them.

While centre-back might not be a priority at Old Trafford these days, Mourinho might not want to miss out on a player he clearly likes who is currently available for nothing.
