If there is one certainty this summer at Manchester City, it’s that David Silva will not be renewing his contract at the Etihad, moving on to try something new in his advancing years as a footballer.
The Spaniard has been at the club for close to 10 years now, joining in the summer of 2010 from Valencia for a fee of around £26m.
Since then, he’s appeared 424 times for the Premier League club, scoring 74 goals and recording 137 assists, but the 34-year-old decided it was time to move on and announced he wouldn’t stay beyond the current season.
There have been rumours of a move to either the MLS, Japan (where Andrés Iniesta still plays) or Qatar, but Corriere dello Sport reckon there’s a club in Italy trying to keep him in Europe.
The Italian newspaper claim Milan ‘are looking to convince him to veer towards Serie A’, seemingly keen on getting him on a free for a short while as long as his legs still work.
While he hasn’t played every game under Pep Guardiola this season, Silva has remained a regular, making 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and helping out with eight assists.
There’s still plenty left in the tank, but it will be up to the former Spain international to see whether or not he wants to remain in Europe or simply try a more exotic destination.
