Monday’s edition of L’Equipe once again hyped up Serge Aurier to Tottenham, explaining everything was set up for a deal to happen.
Tottenham and PSG had agreed a €25m fee, with a further €2m in bonus payments, and the fullback had already agreed personal terms with Spurs. Of course, it was again stated Aurier had undergone some sort of Tottenham medical in Paris, unable to enter the UK.
To save the need for explaining the exact same legal mess again, here’s how we covered L’Equipe’s Monday explanantion:
‘The fullback was denied permission to enter England in November for a match against Arsenal. UK authorities rejected Aurier’s application due to a legal issue hanging over the player. A charge for violence against police officers brought Aurier a two month prison sentence, which he’s since been trying to appeal.
L’Equipe believe there should be an outcome for Tottenham on Tuesday. Not necessarily a full appeal outcome, but it’s stated a fresh UK entry application has been submitted, and will be supported by a document showing Aurier won’t be sentenced to prison on appeal.’
All these legal updates must be coming from Aurier’s camp, as it’s pretty certain the Home Office aren’t providing them.
L’Equipe’s Tuesday update pushes the possible outcome to Tuesday afternoon, and the confidence is fading.
The French newspaper say a decision on Aurier’s visa application will be announced this afternoon, and ‘the latest signals were not encouraging’.
It’s unlikely the Home Office work to a timetable set out by Aurier and his representatives, so don’t be surprised if Tottenham have to wait until Wednesday, later, or maybe never find out what the answer was.
