Leeds United suffered a double blow last night following the loss to Bristol City, but also the injury to instrumental defender Pontus Jansson. The Swede has been in impressive form in recent weeks, but like last season he could again be troubled with injury.
The 24-year-old suffered another knee injury early into the last campaign, that kept him out for a couple of months.
When Jansson recovered from his knee injury his season was blighted with niggles, which restricted him to just six starts in the league. Some of those injuries included muscle problems such as the hamstring strain he suffered in the first half last night.
“Mihajlovic and the president were not confident that my knee would hold up for a whole season and I was a little hurt. I worked before and after workouts for a couple of years on my knee, then I get to hear this, then I became angry. The only remedy was to leave and they went along with it,” said the Swede.
With the influence Jansson has had in the last three league wins prior to last night he will surely be missed if this latest injury setback results in him being sidelined. It would be cruel for the player and unfortunate for Leeds if his great start at the club is now held back by fitness issues.
