De Telegraaf are very well connected in the Netherlands. Sometimes it can feel like the newspaper alsmost push PR for some big Dutch clubs, but in return they get a stream of inside information.
Monday’s front page of the newspaper’s sport section has Dusan Tadic across the front. The story inside is about a ‘sensational’ transfer to Ajax potentially happening in the summer window.
Ajax are said to be working in the background on signing the Southampton player, and Tadic himself is presented as being keen on a return to Dutch football. Tadic moved from FC Twente to Southampton in 2014, and before that he was with Groningen.
The Amsterdam club see Tadic as a replacement for Hakim Ziyech, who wants to leave Ajax should he get a good opportunity this summer.
If and when Southampton’s relegation is confirmed, that’s when Ajax will swoop and try to get the deal done, report De Telegraaf.
Then it’s stated if Tadic ‘isn’t feasible for one reason or another’, the club will move on to other targets.
At 29 years of age, Tadic is in the autumn of his career.
Ajax wages aren’t usually comparable to those on offer in the Premier League, or even some Championship clubs, and it would be odd if he’s willing to commit the end of his career to a salary much lower than he could receive elsewhere.
This could be a little Ajax PR, time will tell.
