Everton’s future owners The Friedkin Group continue to fight fire at AS Roma, with it now possible that Daniele De Rossi could return as manager.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who report that the former midfielder could make a sensational return as manager just over a month after his sacking.
It has been a rough few months for the American group, who, while continuing their purchase of Everton, are facing revolt at Roma.
That stemmed from their decision to sack De Rossi last month after a slow start to the season. He was replaced by Ivan Juric, but the Croatian is yet to inspire anyone.
While he personally has been insisting he’s in heaven in the job, CM say that he risks finding himself in hell in a short time. The next two matches against Dinamo Kiev and Fiorentina will be decisive. No mistakes will be allowed.
And that’s because De Rossi is lingering in the background. He has recently changed agents and joined Fali Ramadani and if Juric were to go, his return ‘would be the most credible hypothesis’.
The question is whether he would accept but CM say it is unlikely he’d turn down the Italian club ever. The fact the CEO Lino Souloukou, who he had a fractured relationship with, has departed the club since his sacking also paves the way for a return. The locker room would also welcome him back.
Then there are the fans, who have been furious since he was sacked and could be placated with a return also.
For now, the Friedkins and those in charge in Trigoria are denying the matter but the idea of a return is lingering and if this week goes badly for Juric, things could pick up.
It’s all a little bit of a mess for the American group, who appear to be making a major drama of things in Rome while waiting to get in place at Everton.
