Remember Nelson Semedo? It’s been a while since he was last mentioned. Earlier in the transfer window, some outlets even said he was pretty close on joining Manchester United after the transfer of Victor Lindelof, but the rumour has faded.
Actually there’s a reason for that, according to Correio da Manhã today. And it’s a pretty obvious one: Benfica are asking too much.
As reported by the newspaper, the Portuguese club already admit the player could stay for longer because no one is paying the price demanded, which is €50m.
It’s claimed that before the Confederations Cup, the club offering most was Barcelona, who wanted to pay €30m. We must recall that the Portuguese press used to say it was Manchester United as the only club who could afford him… they’re changing history here.
But Manchester United aren’t even mentioned this time, and the most interesting part is Benfica admitting the player didn’t have a great international tournament, which made his admirers think twice before bidding for him.
The story basically says that Benfica are delaying the sale until January. But if clubs don’t want to pay now, it’s hard to imagine them spending all that money on a right-back in the winter window.
