Former Manchester City star Vincent Kompany returned to England last summer, when Burnley appointed him as their new manager.
The Clarets have enjoyed a good run under the 43-year-old’s orders this season and are currently top of the table, 11 points ahead of Sheffield United, who are in second spot.
Kompany has helped Burnley sign a few players from Belgium, including getting Lyle Foster from KVC Westerlo in the winter market. The Jupiler Pro League side have also had scouts from the likes of Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund in attendance recently.
This is revealed by Westerlo manager Jonas De Roeck during an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, when asked about his side’s decision to cash in from Foster’s sale to Burnley.
“Foster moved to Burnley for more than €11m. It was a win-win for all parties, a sacrifice we couldn’t refuse. We train young people and the best make a nice transfer – that’s how it goes,” he said.
“Last year in 1B [second division] there were scouts from Virton in the stands, now from Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. A transfer like Foster is the best publicity you can have. It shows that young people get opportunities here, that Westerlo is an ideal springboard.”
Even though De Roeck mentioned Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, the manager has not explained the players the two clubs were monitoring during their scouting trip.
Meanwhile, Foster has managed a goal and an assist from 11 matches in all competitions for Burnley.
